The six associations of Parkinson's patients and their families in the province of Málaga, in collaboration with the Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga (HRUM), organized these conferences to raise awareness about the disease and its effects. The event, held in the Assembly Hall of the General Hospital, brought together over 100 people, including healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
During the conferences, key topics such as the doctor-patient relationship, advancements in the Movement Disorder Unit at HRUM, and the importance of physical exercise and physiotherapy to improve patient autonomy were addressed. Prominent figures such as Carlos Bautista, territorial delegate for Health and Consumption; José Antonio Ortega, managing director of HRUM; and Pedro Serrano, head of the Neuroscience Unit at the same hospital, participated.
The roundtables featured specialists such as Lucía García, deputy medical director of Quality, Training R&D&I at the Regional Hospital, and neurologists Ignacio Rodríguez, Ana Barros, and Beatriz Fernández. The crucial role of nursing staff was also highlighted, with interventions from Antonio Zamudio, director of Nursing, María Luisa Vergara, supervisor of Neurology, and Adriana Muñoz, nurse from the Málaga Parkinson's Association.
The event concluded with the screening of the short film Parkinson de cerca: crónicas de un ritmo compartido (Parkinson Up Close: Chronicles of a Shared Rhythm), a work by students from the UMA's Audiovisual Communication program, which explored the human and emotional dimension of the pathology, deeply moving the audience and sparking interesting debates among attendees.
