After eight years away from the elite of Spanish football, Málaga CF has secured its return to the First Division. The celebrations for promotion continue in the city, while key dates for the blue-and-white team's comeback to LaLiga EA Sports for the 2026/27 season are being finalized, including the calendar draw and international breaks.
The opening matchday of the league championship is scheduled to take place between August 14th and 16th. This date coincides, as is customary, with the start of the Málaga fair. Matches involving teams with players reaching the final stages of the FIFA World Cup, which concludes on July 19th, will be postponed. Therefore, the exact start-of-season schedule for Málaga CF will depend on the conclusion of this international competition and the draw.
The official calendar for the upcoming season will be presented on Tuesday, June 30th, coinciding with the end of the current campaign. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will host a special event at Plaza de Colón in Madrid to unveil the calendars for all official men's and women's competitions in both football and futsal. On this day, Funes' squad will learn their opponents for each matchday, whether they will start the season at home in La Rosaleda or away, and the date the season will conclude.
According to published reports, the FIFA calendar, which incorporates international breaks, will feature modifications for the upcoming season. The first two international breaks, traditionally held in September and October, will be consolidated into two consecutive weeks, from September 21st to October 6th, forming the first period of inactivity. The second break will occur more than a month after the first concludes, taking place from November 9th to 17th.
