Twenty-three days after securing promotion to First Division in Almería, Málaga CF has resumed activities. The chosen date for the return to the pitch was this Monday, marking the start of preparations for LaLiga EA Sports. The squad gathered in a new setting, with most players available on the field, though still awaiting planned signings.
A total of 20 outfield players started pre-season: Carlos Puga, Einar, Pastor, Recio, Dani Sánchez, Rafita; midfielders Ramón, Izan Merino, Dani Lorenzo, Aaron Ochoa, Rafa, Arriaza, and David Larrubia; and forwards Joaquín, Haitam, and Chu pe. Four players from Atlético Malagueño also joined: defender Santaella, midfielder Marcos Rosa, and wingers Juani and Adri López. Goalkeepers Alfonso Herrero, Carlos López, and Andrés Céspedes also participated in the session.
Other players such as Moussa, Lobete, Jauregi, and Niño underwent medical examinations at the Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga. Meanwhile, Juanpe and Murillo continue with their respective recovery processes.
The inaugural day was calm. The technical staff held an initial meeting with the squad at 09:00 to lay the groundwork for the pre-season. Half an hour later, the group took to the Anexo field. Coach Funes took the opportunity to thank the media for their coverage last season and wish them luck in the new top-flight campaign.
Physical trainer Julio Rodríguez led the first training session, focusing on maintaining rhythm and a low-intensity load. The team debuted its new training kit in yellow, black, and white.
The most challenging task now is to finalize the squad with signings and potential departures. With the renewals of Galilea and Jauregi, Loren Juarros is working to reduce the number of professional contracts to make space for new additions. An active transfer market is expected until September 1st.
The team will train from Monday to Saturday, with a double session on Thursday. The only confirmed friendly so far is against English side Leicester on July 25th in Algeciras. The official season is expected to begin between August 18th and 20th, facing Atlético de Madrid on the opening matchday of First Division.
