The event will commemorate the 2026 Jubilee Year, a special period decreed by the Catholic Church. Blessed Tiburcio Arnaiz Muñoz, born in Valladolid in 1865, arrived in Málaga in 1912 and carried out intense missionary work, actively promoting the devotion to the Sacred Heart. He was beatified in 2018.
The image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, carved in 1948 by Domingo Cecilio Sánchez Mesa and currently housed in the Church of Santa María del Sagrario, was restored in 2026 by Enrique Salvo Rabasco. The image of Blessed Arnaiz, created in 2021 by Alejandro López, is located in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The two images will be carried on floats provided by various brotherhoods. The main float, loaned by the Brotherhoods Association of Antequera, is a Rococo-inspired piece designed in the early 2000s. The float for Blessed Arnaiz belongs to the Royal Brotherhood of Love and is complemented by elements from the Congregation of Mena.
The procession will depart from the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The processional cross will begin the march at 7:30 PM, followed by the Sacred Heart float at 7:55 PM. The return to the church is expected around 10:45 PM and 11:10 PM, respectively.
The route, which evokes the first procession recovered by Father Arnaiz in 1915 and the Jesuit's funeral procession in 1926, will pass through the historic center: Plaza de San Ignacio de Loyola, Compañía, Salvago, Especería, Nueva, Liborio García, Marqués de Larios, Strachan, Molina Lario, Santa María, San Agustín, Granada, Plaza del Siglo, Plaza del Carbón, and Plaza de la Constitución.
The procession will be hierarchically organized, starting with the processional cross, followed by groups of faithful, acolytes, and the float of Blessed Tiburcio Arnaiz. The procession will conclude with the float of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, accompanied musically by the Musical Association Cautivo de Estepona.
