Málaga's AEMET director, Jesús Riesco, notes this trend has become common, with minimum temperatures exceeding 20 degrees.

Minimum temperatures in the province of Málaga are exceeding 20 degrees, anticipating summer and becoming a common trend in late May.

The second half of May is bringing a notable rise in temperatures in the province of Málaga, bringing the focus to so-called tropical nights. These nights, characterized by minimums that do not drop below 20 degrees Celsius, are typically summery but are arriving earlier and earlier in the calendar.
According to Jesús Riesco, director of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in Málaga, although these figures have so far occurred sporadically in locations like Estepona, the general trend is that they are becoming more common at the end of May. Municipalities such as Torremolinos recorded highs of 18.5 degrees, and the capital reached 18.3, staying close to the tropical threshold.
Riesco has pointed out that the rise in temperatures, both maximum and minimum, has been more striking this year because the first half of May was cooler than usual. The average minimum for May in Málaga is 14.2 degrees, while current values are approaching 20 degrees, and the predicted maximums will reach 29 degrees, exceeding the average of 24.3.
The meteorologist has emphasized that this early arrival of summer, with tropical nights on the coast, is becoming a constant. Looking ahead to the weekend, minimum temperatures of 20 degrees are expected in municipalities such as Marbella, Manilva, and Rincón de la Victoria. These nights are typical for the Málaga coast between June and August, even reaching torrid nights (exceeding 25 degrees) in mid-summer.
The forecast for next week does not anticipate major changes, with similar values expected in the province. Although a DANA (isolated depression at high levels) is expected to pass over the Peninsula, its main impact is anticipated in the north. Inland, maximum temperatures could exceed 30 degrees, reaching 31 in Ronda, while on the coast they will remain between 27 and 28 degrees, with minimums hovering around 20.
