Given the expected increase in travel for the August 12th solar eclipse, the Civil Guard in Malaga has issued a series of recommendations to ensure road safety, prevent fires, and take extreme precautions in natural and maritime environments.

The Civil Guard's Traffic division anticipates increased mobility on Malaga's roads during the solar eclipse. Drivers are reminded of the prohibition against parking on shoulders and verges, especially on highways and roads, to avoid obstructing emergency services. It is advised to seek designated parking areas and refrain from stopping in unsuitable locations, particularly given the high fire risk in the region. Furthermore, drivers are urged to keep their vehicle lights on and exercise extreme caution regarding potential pedestrians on shoulders seeking an observation point.
For those choosing to observe the phenomenon in natural spaces, the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) emphasizes the extreme fire risk. Barbecues are prohibited, and visitors are asked not to leave trash or discard cigarette butts. A warning is also issued about the danger of driving or parking on dry grass, as engine heat could ignite a fire.
The Mountain Rescue Group of Álora recommends planning hiking routes for eclipse observation, selecting easily accessible locations. They advise carrying a flashlight, water, mountain footwear, and warm clothing, and caution that chosen spots might lack mobile phone coverage. Unnecessary risks, such as approaching cliffs or dangerous ledges, should be avoided.
The Civil Guard's Maritime Service has issued guidelines for those observing the eclipse from the sea. Vessels must maintain a safe distance from swimmers and other boats, and reduce speed during the event. The importance of checking that communication equipment and phones are functioning correctly before setting sail is highlighted.
