The Sala Fundación Unicaja María Cristina in Málaga hosted the award ceremony for the USA Scholarships program. This initiative, in collaboration with the organization Aston Herencia, will enable approximately one hundred young individuals to have a linguistic and cultural immersion experience in the United States.
Present at the ceremony were the Director General of Fundación Unicaja, Sergio Corral; the Director General of Aston Herencia, Enrique León; the Director of Activities Division at Fundación Unicaja, Cristina Rico; the Director of Social Activities, Gerardo Lerones; and the Head of Education, Enrique Gómez-Puig.
This year's edition offered over one hundred scholarships for young people aged between 14 and 17. Ten of these are full scholarships, entirely covering the program cost of 4,400 euros, intended for youth from low-income families. Additionally, 70 partial scholarships were granted, providing 2,200 euros towards the total cost, with a further 200 euros contribution from Aston Herencia. Twenty-five places were also made available at a reduced price for those who did not receive a scholarship.
More than 300 young people from across Spain participated in this year's call. The trip is scheduled from August 23rd to September 14th, with destinations including Utah, Arizona, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia.
The USA Scholarships Fundación Unicaja program, with over three decades of history, offers a three-week stay in American cities. Participants live with host families and attend classes in public schools. Selection is based on academic records (80%) and language proficiency and motivation, assessed through a personal interview.
Since 1989, Fundación Unicaja, in partnership with Aston Herencia, has promoted English language learning through this project, aligning with its commitment to the comprehensive development of young people. Since its inception, the USA Scholarships Fundación Unicaja have enabled over 3,000 young individuals to study in destinations such as Boston, Chicago, Indiana, Washington, New York, Maryland, and Indianapolis.
