This accomplishment represents the best result since the environmental initiative began in 1987, highlighting the water quality, accessibility, and safety of Spanish coasts. The Valencian Community leads the list with 151 flags, closely followed by Andalusia, which has 143 distinctions.
Other autonomous communities with a significant number of Blue Flags include Galicia with 118 and Catalonia with 101. Also noteworthy are the Canary Islands (52), the Balearic Islands and the Region of Murcia (33 each), Asturias (16), Cantabria (11), and Extremadura (8).
The Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Affairs (Adeac), the entity responsible for promoting this program in Spain, has published the data for 2026. In addition to beaches, 111 flags have been awarded to marinas, nine more than in 2025, and six to tourist boats, underscoring the country's commitment to environmental excellence in its coastal areas.
