Residents of Malaga facing economic challenges can now apply for these new grants, designed to help cover water supply bills. The program offers subsidies of up to 1,000 euros per recipient.
These grants can be used to pay overdue bills, cover debts from service contracts, or ensure the continuity of water supply. Applicants must meet specific criteria and submit their requests online via the emasa.es website or in person at the company's offices or Citizen Attention centers.
To qualify, Emasa customers must have an active domestic water supply contract and demonstrate social and economic vulnerability. Applicants must be of legal age, registered residents of the city, possess a valid ID (DNI or NIE), and have no outstanding debts or previous payment defaults with the company.
For this edition, a budget of 510,000 euros (potentially rising to 613,000 euros with external administrative costs) has been allocated for the 2026 fiscal year. The aid is divided into three categories: payment for overdue water, desalination, sanitation, or purification services; subsidies for debts related to service contracts; and support to maintain water supply by covering up to the next three bills.
Specific amounts for maintaining the water service will depend on household size and consumption, which cannot exceed 30% of the average expenditure for a similarly sized household. Grants will range from 102 euros for a single person to 423 euros for families of seven or more members.
Applications can be submitted through the electronic registry at emasa.es, in person at Emasa offices, or at the Municipal Citizen Attention Offices (OMAC).
