The regional chamber will be constituted this Thursday, marking the start of the XIII Legislature, in a context still without a government agreement between the Popular Party and Vox. The 109 elected parliamentarians will take their seats to resume legislative activity.
The political group Por Andalucía, holding one seat for Málaga under the leadership of Ernesto Alba, will present proposals in the plenary session to definitively unblock water treatment in the Bajo Guadalhorce. This initiative arises after the judicial suspension of the preliminary draft for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR Málaga Norte) in Vega de Mestanza.
Alba criticized the "failure of Moreno Bonilla's model", pointing out that the courts had to intervene due to the project's deficiencies. Por Andalucía has consistently advocated for an end to discharges into the Guadalhorce river but has questioned the Junta de Andalucía's strategy of building a mega treatment plant in Vega Mestanza, ignoring social, technical, environmental, and legal warnings.
The parliamentarian recalled that a similar initiative was approved in 2021 by "everyone", but denounced that the Popular Party proceeded without adhering to parliamentary decisions. Alba emphasized that their proposal will prioritize environmental sensitivity, economic efficiency, and speed of execution, seeking collaboration from municipalities, agricultural organizations, irrigation communities, neighborhood groups, environmentalists, and water sector experts.
