The proposal, championed by Alberto Núñez Feijóo's PP, aimed to mitigate the consequences of the AVE service interruption in the Andalusian province. The initiative was voted against by the ruling parties, PSOE and Sumar, along with their parliamentary allies including Junts, ERC, PNV, EH Bildu, Podemos, and BNG. Conversely, Vox and UPN supported the measure, while Coalición Canaria's deputy, Cristina Valido, abstained.
Despite this setback, the Popular Party secured approval for several points of its motion. Notably, this includes a request for a thorough review of the Andalusian railway network, with the goal of revitalizing Cercanías (commuter) and Media Distancia (medium-distance) rail services and infrastructure across Andalucía. The objective is to strengthen key corridors such as the 76 Cádiz-Sevilla-Córdoba-Jaén line, enhance connectivity and rail offerings in particularly affected provinces like Málaga and Sevilla, and address deficiencies in frequencies, capacity, and travel times.
Furthermore, Congress has urged the Executive to reinstate Renfe's punctuality criteria and refund policies that were in place prior to July 2024, including compensation for delays of 15 and 30 minutes. Another approved measure, despite opposition from PSOE and Sumar, is the provisional elimination or temporary discount on tolls for the Costa del Sol and Las Pedrizas, as long as the disruptions from the direct rail link cut with Málaga persist.
Finally, the Lower House also backed a request for the complete file, including actions, contracts, technical reports, and decisions, related to the repair of the landslide in the Málaga town of Álora, to be submitted to Congress as soon as possible.
