The CCOO union has requested the annulment of the Employment Regulation File (ERE) presented by the technology company Magnific, formerly known as Freepik, which contemplates the dismissal of 111 employees in Spain.

The union organization believes that a company positioning itself as a leader in the AI revolution should not dismiss a third of its workforce. Antonio Campano, head of the CCOO Services Technical Sector in Malaga, lamented the "serious lack of foresight" in managing the transition to a new business model, stating that "workers are the ones bearing the cost of strategic decisions in which they have not participated."
Campano asserted that Magnific's strategy, promoted under its new corporate identity, should have been accompanied by planning that avoided job destruction. "Behind every affected position there is a person, and in many cases, a family," recalled the union section, demanding that any adjustment be managed with dignity and respect for the professionals who have contributed to the company's success.
The union has also requested disaggregated data on the company's global employment evolution. Magnific, founded in 2010 by Joaquín Cuenca and the Blanes brothers, is being scrutinized to determine if the reduction in Spain corresponds with job creation or maintenance in other international offices, such as San Francisco. They note that the Spanish workforce has progressively decreased in recent years through unfilled vacancies and non-renewal of temporary contracts.
CCOO urges management to effectively explore internal redeployment for affected employees, arguing that a company committed to talent must exhaust all internal avenues before proposing mass layoffs. The organization reminds that the fund EQT has been the majority shareholder of Magnific since 2020 and calls for transparency regarding the ERE's reasons, demanding guarantees that employment will not be conditioned by financial objectives unrelated to the company's actual activity.
The union commits to negotiating in good faith during the consultation period, reiterating its demand for the ERE's withdrawal and the initiation of a process that explores all possible alternatives to prevent job destruction, maintaining the defense of each job as the highest priority.
