The police operation, initiated last October, focused on an organized group that acquired blank-firing weapons in European Union countries to convert them into functional firearms capable of firing live ammunition. These weapons were subsequently sold on the black market, generating significant economic profits for the organization.
In an initial phase, four individuals were arrested, and handguns, ammunition cartridges, defense sprays, and tools for modifying barrels were seized. The investigation continued with surveillance and tracking operations that culminated in a final enforcement phase across several locations in Málaga, including Fuengirola, Benalmádena, and Coín, as well as in Puente Genil (Córdoba).
This second phase led to the arrest of 12 more people, including the group's leader and the person responsible for acquiring the weapons. A 'clandestine workshop' was discovered in Benalmádena where modifications were carried out, along with a hidden storage area containing the majority of the seized weaponry.
Among the seized items are 19 pistols, six revolvers, over 1,300 rounds of ammunition, silencers, cash, and mobile phones. Several long firearms, including G36 and AR4 submachine guns and shotguns, were also confiscated. The arrested individuals face charges including membership in a criminal organization, arms trafficking, and illegal possession of weapons, among others.
