The Vélez-Rubio City Council has invested 20,086.80 euros to acquire 9,013 square meters of land, thereby consolidating municipal ownership of most of its Fairgrounds.

This recent operation, formalized last Monday with the signing of the purchase from private owners, represents a crucial step for the municipality. With this acquisition, the City Council not only expands its public land but also reaches a significant milestone, exceeding 50,000 square meters of land acquired by the local administration in recent years.

"We can say that we have achieved a great objective."

Miguel Martínez-Carlón · Mayor of Vélez-Rubio
For Mayor Miguel Martínez-Carlón, this purchase is the culmination of a "great objective" for the future of the residents. The mayor emphasized the importance of preventing this land from falling into private hands, which would have restricted the municipality's ability to organize its most emblematic events, fairs, and acts at the Fairgrounds.
The mayor also recalled a previous fundamental operation: the purchase of 36,000 square meters that were in the hands of an investment fund. That transaction, closed for 90,000 euros, acted as a "firewall" to prevent the fairgrounds from falling to third parties, which, according to the mayor, would have led to "detrimental and economic consequences" for the town.
With the incorporation of these new 9,000 square meters, the Vélez-Rubio City Council ensures control over the development of one of the areas with the greatest growth potential. This acquisition policy, which now totals over five hectares of public land, guarantees that the municipality will have sufficient space for infrastructure, equipment, and, of course, for the enjoyment of its festivals and fairs without the uncertainty of relying on private land.
