The Mancomunidad of Municipalities of Los Pedroches has brought its tourism and gastronomic promotion to the heart of Cordoba, specifically to the San Basilio neighborhood, taking advantage of the May festivals and the opening of its patios.
Visitors to the emblematic San Basilio neighborhood had the opportunity to taste 100% Iberian acorn-fed ham from the Los Pedroches PDO, hand-sliced on-site. The 'street marketing' event aimed to showcase the region's extensive offerings, considered one of Spain's major Iberian pork territories.
This initiative, the third of its kind after those held in Seville and Malaga, is part of the Los Pedroches Sustainable Tourism Plan in Destination (PSTD) and is financed by the EU-Next Generation. The objective is comprehensive promotion, covering nature and heritage tourism as well as gastronomy, including tastings and samples.
Participants enjoyed tastings and received an introduction to the richness of the dehesa (oak pastureland), the extensive livestock farming model, and the expertise passed down through generations in the north of the Cordoba province.
The objective was to create an authentic experience that connected Cordoba's cultural identity with one of the most representative products of our land. We wanted those who visited the patio not only to taste great ham but also to understand everything behind it: landscape, tradition, sustainability, and gastronomic excellence.
The setting of the Cordoban patios, with their flowers and traditional architecture, contributed to the event's success. The initiative took advantage of the high attendance during the May Fair and promoted the 'Luces de la Dehesa' campaign, focused on astronomical tourism in the region, declared a Starlight Reserve.
The proposal generated interest among national and international visitors, as well as locals, who particularly valued the experiential and educational nature of the activity. The opportunity to learn more about the product's origin and the historical link between Cordoba and the Iberian culture was highlighted.
Gastronomy is also a way of telling who we are. And actions like this allow us to bring visitors closer to the true essence of Cordoba through emotion, senses, and authenticity.
The event concluded with high participation and excellent public reception, establishing itself as an example of tourism and gastronomic promotion that unites cultural heritage and gourmet products to project the identity of Los Pedroches.
