The plenary session, which was meant to focus on approving the municipal accounts, devolved into a exchange of offenses and personal remarks between the People's Party councilors and the mayor. The atmosphere became particularly heated when the mayor, Matías González, criticized the opposition's conduct, uttering phrases like "They have no respect because they haven't earned it nor will they earn it."
PP councilor José Fernández, while consulting the municipal comptroller, faced harsh criticism from the mayor. Later, councilor Santos Ortega was subjected to appellations like "Mr. Giggles" by the mayor. The tension escalated to the point where Ortega responded by calling the mayor a "scoundrel" and, at one point, alluding to a possible "Mr. Pimp."
“"Just like calling him Mr. Pimp, I don't know."
The Councilor of Finance, Antonia Ramírez, was also the subject of comments regarding her attire and gait, in reference to the state of the town's streets. These remarks provoked the mayor's reaction, who criticized the councilor's dress sense.
Aware of the general embarrassment and the poor image projected, the PP group's spokesperson, José Fernández, attempted to de-escalate the situation by admitting that the session "was getting out of hand." Subsequently, Santos Ortega offered public apologies, requested the insults be removed from the minutes, and clarified that his interventions were intended as political irony rather than personal disrespect.
Finally, the budget for 2026, amounting to 7,335,476 euros, was approved with the votes in favor of PSOE and IU. The accounts include investments in social rental housing and a civic center.
