Since its segregation from Iznalloz in 2014, this small town of just over 600 inhabitants has maintained a strong preference for left-wing forces at the polls. This pattern has been observed in various electoral calls, both at regional and municipal levels, where the Popular Party has sometimes been left out of the council.
In the 2022 regional elections, while the Andalusian map was painted red and blue, Dehesas Viejas was a notable exception. The Por Andalucía formation emerged as the leading force, gaining the support of 132 voters, representing a third of the total census and the only victory for this coalition in the region.
A year later, in the municipal elections, the results varied, although the left maintained its predominance. The PSOE emerged victorious, and a local representative took office as mayor with an absolute majority of four councilors. The second force was Para la Gente, which in its first electoral participation obtained 44% of the votes and the remaining three councilors, while the Popular Party received only six votes, without representation in the town hall.
The first time the locality elected its regional representatives was in 2018. On that occasion, Adelante Andalucía was the most voted formation, with 49.2% of the votes (200 people), followed by the PSOE with 30%. These figures highlight the strong presence of the left in the municipality, as other formations such as Ciudadanos and the Popular Party were relegated to the last positions, with 8% and 6.1% of the votes respectively.
In 2019, in another municipal election, the situation remained similar, with Izquierda Unida winning five of the seven councilors at stake, and the remaining two divided between the PSOE and Vecinos por Dehesas Viejas (VxD). This scenario reflects a constant in the electoral history of the municipality, where Izquierda Unida has been a dominant force since its beginnings as an independent entity.
