The project, named Plan Vigila H-O, is already operational with nearly a hundred cameras and is expected to reach 115 in the coming days, covering the urban perimeter and progressively extending to the districts. The ultimate goal is to provide coverage throughout the entire municipal area.
This initiative, presented by the City Council, has become a fundamental tool for the Local Police, with the support of the Guardia Civil. The intelligent image analysis technology allows for reconstructing the routes of vehicles involved in crimes or accidents, identifying vandalism, and locating drivers who abandon accident scenes.
The information gathered facilitates the claiming of damages from responsible parties or their insurers for defects in urban elements such as roundabouts or signs. Furthermore, the system analyzes real-time traffic, identifying congestion points, like the highway exit towards the industrial estate, where peaks of over 1,000 vehicles per hour are recorded.
The next step in the project is to request permits from the Government Delegation to install specific citizen security cameras in strategic points, as the current devices are authorized for traffic control.
