The historic Villa de Garrucha Trophy, one of Spain's oldest, reaches its 65th edition this Saturday in Garrucha, featuring a match between two Almería-based teams.

The Villa de Garrucha Trophy, a competition with a 65-edition history, solidifies its position as a significant sporting event in the Almería summer. This tournament ranks among the longest-running in Spain, surpassed only by trophies such as the Ramón de Carranza in Cádiz, the Teresa Herrera in La Coruña, and the Colombino in Huelva.
Borja Garrido, president of the Peña Deportiva Garrucha, emphasizes the trophy's importance, calling it the fourth oldest in Spain and a historical benchmark for football in the province. Garrido also mentioned the club's upcoming centenary, to be celebrated in 2027.
The 65th edition of the trophy will take place this Saturday at the Estadio Emilio Moldenhauer at 7:00 PM. The match will pit the Club Deportivo Villa del Albox against the local team. Despite the difference in league categories between the two Almería sides, a competitive game is anticipated, recalling that Albox won a previous friendly match.
The main objective of the event is for the Villa de Garrucha Trophy to be a true "football festival," fostering unity and sportsmanship between both fan bases.

"We want to continue the spirit of brotherhood between the two teams, for both fan bases to enjoy, to see good football, to see it with rivalry, but also to see something healthy."

Borja Garrido · President of Peña Deportiva Garrucha
As a distinguished guest, Almería-born footballer Diego Capel, who trained at Sevilla CF's academy and has represented Spain internationally, will perform the traditional honorary kick-off. The Miss Garrucha, to be chosen this Thursday, will also play a prominent role in the event, continuing the tradition upheld by the Peña Deportiva Garrucha.
