Master Francisco Soler Visiedo, popularly known as Paco el Sacristán, has presented his work Laudatio a Turre. Crónicas Periodísticas, a journey through the history and linguistic peculiarities of his hometown.

Soler Visiedo's new work covers diverse topics such as teaching, the peculiarities of local speech, the customs of bathing in ponds and eating prickly pears, as well as the disappearance of old flour mills and the last reapers. The book offers a chronicle spanning more than half a century, written with deep knowledge and passion for his land, the result of years of research and the use of oral sources.

"For some time now, I have been hearing and reading a lot about Almerian speech. We have something in common, but the speech of Turre, for example, cannot be compared with that of Adra or Dalías."

Francisco Soler Visiedo · Author of 'Laudatio a Turre'
According to Soler, the predominant language in the north and east of the province of Almería was brought by Murcians, Christians not from the Kingdom of Granada, whom Philip II designated for repopulation. He highlights that the suffix “ico” is of Murcian origin, with Aragonese roots, and mentions as an anecdote that the inhabitants of Istán, in Málaga, are known as 'panochos' Murcians. The author also makes the people of Turre protagonists of their own history, including the genesis of the first football fields and regional rivalry, positioning the Turre team as one of the oldest in the province.

"The materials collected in this book are priceless. It practically brings to light the entire town between 1920 and 1980, making ordinary people the protagonists of history."

Juan Grima · Arráez Editores
The book was presented on Holy Saturday in Turre. Mayor Damián Arturo Grima Cervantes recalled an episode from 1996, during the IV Centenary of the refoundation of Turre, when Francisco Soler participated in the program Tal como somos on Canal Sur. Soler won 150,000 pesetas of the time, which he donated entirely for the restoration of the Ermita de La Carrasca, demonstrating his love for Sierra Cabrera.
The prologue of the work, by writer and researcher José González Núñez, known as Pepe de Piedad, details Paco's early priestly vocation and his later decision to dedicate himself to teaching. Soler began his high school studies independently at the Instituto de Enseñanza Media de Almería, under the tutelage of his uncles Jacinto and Teresa and the teachings of Francisco González Ruíz. During his years of study in Madrid, he stayed at the home of his cousin Pedro Álvarez Soler, where he met Arturo Medina, widower of Celia Viñas and professor at the newly created Experimental and Night School of Teaching.
Francisco Soler's articles transcended the local and provincial spheres, gaining national resonance. An example was his article in the newspaper ABC, after his retirement, about the imperative and distorting language in education. His criticisms, full of humor, were picked up by figures such as Nobel Prize in Literature Camilo José Cela, cartoonist Antonio Mingote, and writers Jaime Campmany and Alfonso Ussía. Francisco Soler has been the town crier for the Patron Saint Festivities of San Francisco and Holy Week in Turre.
