Water accumulation in various areas of Cuevas del Almanzora has created a favorable environment for mosquito breeding. In response, the Council has strengthened its collaboration with the specialized company Anticimex to act quickly and effectively, aiming to minimize inconvenience to residents.
The adopted strategy focuses on a sustainable approach. Technical teams are using all-terrain vehicles equipped with high-precision spray cannons. The main treatment involves applying Bacillus thuringiensis, a state-of-the-art biological biocide that directly targets mosquito larvae.
The priority is to ensure effectiveness without compromising the environment.
The Town Council emphasizes that this larvicide is selective, making it harmless to fauna, flora, and people. The action plan covers the entire municipal area, including hamlets, ravines, canals, and storm drains. Special attention has been given to coastal areas such as Pozo del Esparto and Villaricos, where increased rainfall has created new risk points requiring constant vigilance to prevent the emergence of breeding foci.
The Council highlights the importance of citizen involvement for the campaign's success, as many breeding grounds are found in private spaces. Therefore, residents are advised to adopt basic measures such as keeping water in fountains, ponds, pools, and swimming pools clean and treated; avoiding water accumulation in containers like pots, buckets, or tires; hermetically sealing tanks, wells, and cisterns; and installing mosquito nets on doors and windows.
The Town Council thanks residents in advance for their cooperation in achieving a pest-free municipality and ensuring a more peaceful summer in Cuevas del Almanzora.
