The competition, organized by the Andalusian Speleology Federation in collaboration with the Villacarrillo City Council, saw the Jaén-based team dominate from start to finish. The GEV garnered 13 gold, 11 silver, and 10 bronze medals, marking a milestone in the history of Spanish speleological sport.
With 17 participants across the three championship events—speed, endurance, and circuit—the club prevailed in categories ranging from seniors to pre-juniors, in both male and female divisions. Furthermore, the GEV was the only club to achieve a full podium in several events, including senior female speed, junior male and senior female endurance, and senior male and female circuit.
Individually, two athletes stood out with triple gold medals in the senior male and junior male categories, respectively, underscoring the high competitive level of the Villacarrillo club.
“"Overcoming this barrier of 200 medals, doing it with a Spanish record and also in my municipality is a dream come true. When I started, I never thought I could reach this sporting point. I want to dedicate these medals to my son Carlos."
The highlight of the day was led by one of the GEV's vice-presidents, who broke the Spanish record in the senior female endurance event. With this gold medal, she reached 200 golds in her sporting career, becoming the athlete with the highest number of gold medals in speleology nationwide. A club spokesperson described this achievement as "surely unattainable for other athletes, both male and female."
The athlete, with 21 years of experience in speleology, expressed her emotion for the record and the number of medals obtained. For its part, the GEV management positively assessed the results, despite some significant absences, and highlighted the advantage of competing at home ahead of the upcoming Andalusian Championship to be held in Málaga.
