The club from Jaén demonstrated its superiority at the event, organized by the Andalusian Speleology Federation in collaboration with the Villacarrillo City Council. The competition, which took place last Saturday, saw 17 G.E.V. athletes participate in three modalities: speed, resistance, and circuit.
The team's performance resulted in an impressive haul of 34 medals, including 13 gold, 11 silver, and 10 bronze. This success was further highlighted by a new Spanish record, set by one of the athletes in the resistance event within the senior female category.
“"This time, having the event in our town was an advantage because we didn't have to get up early for a three or four-hour journey, so our athletes could be more rested. Although we had some significant absences, the results are satisfactory heading into the Andalusian Championship, which will be held next month in Málaga."
G.E.V. athletes excelled in all categories, from seniors to pre-juniors, both male and female, outperforming competitors from other Andalusian provinces. The club was the only one to achieve full podiums in several events, including speed in senior female, resistance in junior male and senior female, and circuit in senior male and female.
One of the most outstanding figures of the competition was the vice president of the G.E.V., who is also a sports technician in speleology and an instructor at the club's Speleology School. She won the gold medal in the resistance event and broke the Spanish record in the senior female category, bringing her total gold medals to 200 in her sports career, a milestone that makes her the athlete with the most gold medals in speleology in Spain.
