This year, the celebration is divided into two main phases: the Barbate Tuna Route, which kicks off on Wednesday, April 22, and the Tuna Fair, starting on Wednesday, April 29. Both will conclude on May 3, offering visitors a comprehensive gastronomic experience.
A total of 40 bars and restaurants will participate in the route's gastronomic competition, serving tapas made with tuna as the star ingredient for 6 euros, including a drink. Additionally, the municipal gastronomic tent will house around 20 stands, where wine and tuna tastings, musical performances, and culinary demonstrations will take place.
Barbate's Gastronomic Tuna Week reaches its majority with its eighteenth edition, being a benchmark event in the calendar of gastronomic fairs in the province of Cádiz.
Highlighted activities include guided visits to the almadrabas (traditional tuna traps), the traditional 'ronqueo' (artisanal tuna cutting) of wild red tuna by companies like Petaca Chico and Gadira, and presentations on the world of tuna at the Casa de la Cultura. There will also be showcookings with renowned chefs such as Daniel del Toro, Jordi Ortiz, and Manuel Callado, among others.
Attendees can participate in a prize draw, including a weekend for two at Hostal Boutique Luz del Sol Barbate or dinner at the Variopinto restaurant, by completing a 'tapaporte' with stamps from five different tapas. The draw will take place on Sunday, May 3, at 7:30 PM.
The program also includes activities for children, such as Children's Day on Thursday, April 30, with reduced-price attractions. Saturday, May 2, will mark World Tuna Day with a special 'ronqueo' by Gadira at the Fishing Port Market.
