This weekend, the facilities of the Real Aeroclub de Málaga in Vélez-Málaga will become the hub of aeromodelling with the celebration of the V International Aguacate Model Airshow. The event, running from April 17 to 19, has established itself as the most significant unmanned aviation airshow in southern Spain.
The gathering will attract participants from various regions of the peninsula, the Canary Islands, and Portugal, offering an exciting spectacle with scale model aircraft that promise to delight both enthusiasts and the general public. Throughout the festival, some of the most outstanding model aircraft from Spain and Portugal will be seen in flight, piloted by radio control experts.
These models, some of which exceed 300 km/h and have wingspans of over 4 meters, are detailed replicas of real aircraft. Friday, April 17, will be dedicated to participant reception, technical verifications, and training, from 12:00 PM until sunset.
Saturday, April 18, will be the main day of the festival, featuring over 120 model aircraft in an aerial display that will begin at 10:00 AM and continue throughout the day. Attendees can enjoy acrobatic maneuvers performed by the best radio-controlled aircraft and helicopter pilots from Spain and Portugal, who will make exclusive use of the aerodrome's 959-meter runway to showcase their talent.
On Sunday, April 19, free exhibition flights will take place in the morning, allowing aeromodellers to perform their acrobatics until early afternoon, when the event will conclude. Admission to the Real Aeroclub de Málaga grounds is free, and attendees can also enjoy an aeronautical market and other complementary activities.
The festival, which originated in 2022, aims to bring the world of aeromodelling and aeronautics to a wider audience, establishing itself as a benchmark for enthusiasts and experts. It is promoted by the Asociación Aguacate Model Airshow and the Real Aeroclub de Málaga. This event, along with the International Air Festival of Torre del Mar in September, strengthens Vélez-Málaga's position as a prominent destination in Europe for the training of future pilots and for aviation enthusiasts.
