The Torrox Local Police have initiated 15 sanctioning proceedings for uncontrolled dumping in sensitive areas of the municipality, following an information campaign.

Following an information and awareness campaign lasting just over a month, the Torrox Local Police have begun to fine uncontrolled dumping in sensitive areas. Mayor Óscar Medina highlighted citizen collaboration in identifying offenders, some even from nearby municipalities. Fifteen sanctioning proceedings have been initiated: eight for serious infractions and seven for minor ones.
The mayor emphasized the role of residents who inform the Local Police to eradicate these dumpings that harm coexistence and Torrox's image. Medina also denounced that Endesa has not provided electricity to the new clean point, threatening to open it with generators if not resolved within a month. However, it was recalled that the lack of a functional clean point does not exempt responsibility for managing construction waste.
The Local Police are actively pursuing these uncivil behaviors, such as dumping furniture, pruning waste, or debris. The mayor pointed out sensitive areas like the roads to Cómpeta and Frigiliana, El Pontil, Pago Santilla, Torrox Park, and Avenida del Mediterráneo as locations where police action is already having a positive effect. The work of the concessionaire company FCC Caviclum and the municipal commitment to keeping the town clean were also highlighted.
The head sub-inspector of the Local Police, José Manuel Ruiz, explained that improper use of containers was detected, with furniture deposited outside hours and without notice, as well as pruning and construction waste, and even sacks from small renovations, all prohibited by municipal ordinance. Nearly twenty sanctioning proceedings have been opened, with fines ranging from 750 euros (minor) to 3,000 euros (serious).
The intention is not solely to fine but to raise awareness. It is reminded that to dispose of furniture, the cleaning company must be contacted beforehand. It is projected that over a hundred fines will be issued by the end of summer if the trend continues, although the expectation is for the number to decrease with public awareness. Residents are encouraged to send photos or videos of dumpings to the Local Police WhatsApp, with guaranteed confidentiality.
The chief officer of the Local Police, Diego Blancat, publicly congratulated the cleaning company for their impeccable work. He noted that citizen collaboration is fundamental, as many residents are tired of the dirt. It has been detected that many offenders are not from Torrox but from municipalities like Motril, Frigiliana, or Cómpeta, and actions will be taken to put an end to these behaviors.
Diego Blancat also stressed the importance of waste management by companies, in addition to individuals. Neighborhood collaboration is proving key to reducing these episodes of incivility that dirty the town, its rural areas, and paths.
