The deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, along with the Councilor for Culture of Vélez-Málaga, Alicia Pérez, and the painter's daughters, Carmen Hernández and María Jesús Hernández, presented the new edition of this competition. The event pays tribute to the figure and legacy of the renowned painter Francisco Hernández.
Considered one of the most significant cultural events in the Axarquía region, the competition will bring together numerous artists and enthusiasts. Jesús Pérez Atencia highlighted its traditional nature and the tribute to Francisco Hernández's work.
The contest will offer a first prize of €1,700, a second prize of €800, and a third prize of €500. Registration will open at 9:00 AM on July 25th at the Nuestra Señora del Carmen building (former Sugar Mill), where works will also be received until 2:00 PM.
Pérez Atencia also recalled the artist's "human dimension," inviting residents and visitors to enjoy the creative process live and to converse with the artists.
The Councilor for Culture, Alicia Pérez, invited artists to participate in a call that transforms Torre del Mar into an "authentic open-air studio," uniting creativity, talent, and heritage.
Although the theme will be free, the jury will particularly value works inspired by Torre del Mar and its surroundings. The awarded artworks will become the property of the Vélez-Málaga City Council. The required format is 81 by 100 centimeters.
Alicia Pérez reaffirmed the municipal commitment to a diverse and high-quality cultural program, thanking the collaboration of the Mayor's Office, the Hernández family, and the jury members.
Carmen Hernández, on behalf of the family, expressed her pride in the continuation of the tribute to her father, highlighting the open nature of the competition and its connection to the artwork chosen for this edition's poster, which depicts a landscape of the promenade.
