The province of Málaga records an average retirement pension of 1,452.93 euros, but only six of its 103 municipalities exceed this figure, indicating a marked economic gap.

The average retirement pension in the province of Málaga stands at 1,452.93 euros per month, according to data from the National Institute of Social Security. However, this average is only surpassed by six out of the province's 103 municipalities, meaning 94.1% of localities fall below this figure.
Rincón de la Victoria tops the list with the highest average pension, reaching 1,742.63 euros per month, 290 euros above the provincial average. It is followed by the capital (1,642.59 euros), Alhaurín de la Torre (1,611.35), Torremolinos (1,505.61), Benalmádena (1,496.67), and Marbella (1,486.53).
At the opposite end, Sayalonga presents the lowest pension, with an average of 880.18 euros per month for its 172 retirees. This town is the only one in the province where the average pension falls below 900 euros, being 572 euros less than the provincial average.
These figures highlight profound economic and labor differences within the province, with a clear division between the west, which has higher pensions, and the east, with significantly lower amounts. The highest pensions are concentrated in the capital, its metropolitan area, and the western coast, while eastern Málaga, Axarquía, and the interior register the lowest.
The six municipalities with the highest pensions represent 58% of the province's total retirees, totaling 105,276 individuals out of 180,938 total retirees.
Axarquía is the region with the lowest pensions, most of them below 1,000 euros. Excluding Rincón de la Victoria, only 11 of its 31 municipalities exceed one thousand euros. The urban centers of Vélez-Málaga (1,274 euros), Nerja (1,187), and Torrox (1,139) record the highest figures in the region.
The unequal distribution is explained by labor profiles. In the capital, metropolitan area, and coast, workers and entrepreneurs in service sectors and qualified jobs, with higher contribution bases, are concentrated. In contrast, in many rural towns, the historical labor structure linked to agriculture has resulted in lower contribution bases and, consequently, smaller pensions.
Nationally, the average retirement pension in Spain is 1,572 euros per month, 120 euros more than the Málaga provincial average. Only three Málaga municipalities exceed the national average: Rincón de la Victoria, Alhaurín de la Torre, and Málaga capital.
Considering all pensions (permanent disability, retirement, widowhood, family support, and orphanhood), the average amount in the province is 1,261.96 euros. Orphanhood pensions are the lowest (510.60 euros), followed by widowhood pensions (909.09 euros), permanent disability pensions (1,235.13 euros), and family support pensions (772.03 euros).
By gender, women, who represent 52% of pensioners, receive 414 euros less than men (1,064.02 euros compared to 1,478.91 euros). Individuals under 65 years old receive an average of 1,073.61 euros, while those over that age, representing 81% of the total, receive 1,305.56 euros.
