The Vélez-Málaga City Council has announced the replacement of the old patio awning at CEIP Blas Infante with a new fixed structure. This initiative, highly requested by families due to the approaching high temperatures, aims to provide greater safety and comfort for students.

Problems arose after a crack was detected in the structure supporting the previous textile system, forcing municipal technical services to remove the damaged elements and shore up the pillars as a precaution. First Deputy Mayor Jesús Pérez Atencia defended the local government's action as "prudent and responsible," highlighting the completion of a complex administrative process that included geotechnical studies and repair projects.

The award contract, with an economic outlay close to 62,000 euros, was signed this week. The new stable structure will cover an area of 161 square meters, the same space as the previous awning.

Construction work will commence without delay on July 1st, after the academic period concludes. The installation requires heavy machinery, making it incompatible with student safety during school hours. The City Council aims for the infrastructure to be fully ready by the start of the school year in September.

Meanwhile, the Councilor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros, recalled that all classrooms at the school are already air-conditioned thanks to a municipal plan. He recommended that students remain indoors during peak sun hours. Claros also acknowledged the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía for thermal improvements and announced the planting of trees in the courtyards as a complementary measure to naturally reduce ambient temperature.
