The Plaza de los Cangrejos in Nerja will become the first stop on August 1st for the new traveling edition of the 'Zambombas al Fresquito' event. Organized by the Association of Friends of Zambombeo, this initiative aims to promote pastorales and zambombas, considered cultural heritage, and give them greater visibility.
The presentation was attended by the president of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Oriental Axarquía, Jorge Martín, the councilors for Tourism and Popular Traditions, Ana María Muñoz and Elena Gálvez, and the president of the Association of Neighbors of Las Protegidas, José Miguel Ortuño.
The day will begin at 8:00 PM with a parade starting from the passage of Calle Carmen, at the base of the City Hall, which will tour the main streets of the center. Later, at 9:30 PM, the Plaza de los Cangrejos will host the pastoral festival, featuring the Pastoral de Iznate, the Pastoral Raíces de Colmenarejo (Málaga), the Pastoral Los Pastores del Puerto de Alhaurín, the Pastoral de Las Lagunas de Mijas, and the host, the Pastoral de las Protegidas de Nerja.
Deputy Mayor Ana María Muñoz expressed her satisfaction with hosting the event: «For Nerja, it is an honor to be the first host of this new phase. Our pastorales are part of a cultural, musical, and ethnographic heritage of immense value, not only for our municipality but for the entire province of Málaga. Activities like this help keep this tradition alive, highlight its value, and continue promoting it as a tourist and cultural attraction».
José Miguel Ortuño, president of the Association of Neighbors of Las Protegidas and director of the local Pastoral, thanked the Nerja City Council for its collaboration and the commitment of all participants. He invited residents and visitors to enjoy «a different and atypical day, in the middle of summer, but with a very clear objective: to show, preserve, care for, and cherish our own, our roots».
