The 30th Cultural Week of Colmenar kicks off this Friday, April 24, offering a wide array of proposals aimed at fostering artistic creation, citizen participation, and community living. The initiative, organized by the Town Council, includes various artistic disciplines and thematic areas for all audiences.
“"I want to congratulate the Colmenar Town Council for maintaining the Cultural Week for 30 years. Fostering artistic creation, promoting participation, and organizing activities that generate coexistence is fundamental in the life of towns."
Among the highlighted activities is the 14th Coexistence in Nature with Sports Seniors, which will mark the beginning of the cultural week. On Saturday, April 25, attendees can enjoy an excursion to the Castellar Zoo and a theatrical performance of the play El Cuarto de la Gallina, by the 'Colmenar 79' company, with free admission at the Casa de la Cultura.
On Sunday, there will be a hiking route to the Cebollón river in Granada and the 1st Meeting of Verdiales Schools, an event that seeks to promote and disseminate this deeply rooted folklore in the region. Seven 'pandas' (groups) of the Montes, Almogía, and Comares styles from across the province will participate in this gathering.
Throughout the weekend, the 3rd edition of the Tapas Route will also be held, where participants can taste and vote for their favorite tapas to win prizes. Other activities include a 'Laughter Yoga' workshop on Monday, April 27, the celebration of Book Day on Tuesday, April 28, with book deliveries to people over 65, and Pedal Day on Thursday, April 30.
On Friday, May 1, the traditional 20th Open-Air Painting Contest will take place, attracting artists from all over Spain. The Town Council funds the first prize, worth 2,000 euros, and other prizes are awarded thanks to the collaboration of local entrepreneurs. The winning works will become the property of the Town Council or the sponsoring entities.
The program extends into early May with events such as the Spring Market, an open day at the Honey Museum, the Pilgrimage in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria on Saturday, May 2, and the Day of the Pipe or the Cross in Solano on Sunday, May 3. The cultural week will conclude with a talk by journalist Antonio Pampliega about his kidnapping and a paddle tennis tournament from May 8 to 10.
