While the University is responsible for regulated training and research, the College ensures ethics, deontology, and the defense of the profession. This independence, far from separating us, strengthens us, allowing for a fluid and stable relationship that projects Jaén's medicine to new heights of prestige.

The rector of the University of Jaén has highlighted the maturity of its Faculty of Health Sciences, whose Medicine Degree is now in its fourth year, and praised the fruitful collaborations with healthcare institutions and medical entities in the province.
These statements were made during the institutional academic conference ‘University, Academy and College: Meeting Point for Medicine’, held this Tuesday, which brought together professionals from the sector and members of the university community. The event, organized by the UJA, aimed to foster debate on the medical profession from the perspective of the three key entities: the University of Jaén, the Professional College of Physicians of Jaén, and the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Eastern Andalusia.
The rector emphasized the “excellent work” of the professional college, whose relationship with the UJA is based on mutual respect for their competencies. While the university focuses on regulated training and research, the college is responsible for ethics, deontology, and the defense of the profession. This independence, according to the rector, strengthens the relationship and enhances the prestige of medicine in Jaén.
He also referred to the “rigor and prestige” of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery, which, together with high-level university training and real clinical experience, contributes to an “ecosystem of excellence and success”. The UJA's Medicine Degree, now in its fourth year, features an educational model designed to meet current healthcare needs, prioritizing direct patient contact as a fundamental pillar of medical education.
The “close synergy” between the UJA, the University Hospital of Jaén, and other hospitals and health centers in the province was highlighted. This alliance with the Ministry of Health is based on comprehensive training, real clinical practice, and linked faculty. The rector also mentioned the investment in university infrastructure, such as the new Health Sciences building, demonstrating the UJA's commitment to medical studies.
The incorporation of new medical professionals into the healthcare system from 2028, coming from the UJA, is expected to help mitigate the shortage of doctors and rejuvenate staff, contributing to retaining talent in Jaén and to the excellence of the National Health System. The conference included the participation of Nabil Benomar, director of the Department of Health Sciences; Armando Zuluaga, president of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Eastern Andalusia; and Gerardo Chica, president of the Official College of Physicians of Jaén. The Secretary General of Universities of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Miguel Posadas, was responsible for closing the event.
