Coordinated by Professor M.ª Paz López-Peláez, this project took the form of a concert-conference that merged musical performance with a space for dialogue. The main objective was to analyze the artistic creation of women from the second half of the 20th century, responding to a clear need for recognition.
“"Showcasing the work of composers fosters diversity on stage and promotes the construction of a truly inclusive musical memory."
The musical program featured two works by internationally renowned female composers: Frames by British composer Cecilia McDowall and the Concerto for Trumpet and Piano by Russian composer Aleksandra Pakhmutova. Both pieces, which illustrate the richness of contemporary female creation, are rarely performed on major stages despite their undeniable quality.
The performances were given by young talents associated with the University of Jaén: Lucía Espinosa Cobaleda, a graduate in Primary Education and a trumpeter, and Víctor Báez Segura, a pianist and former member of the UJA Orchestra. This choice not only highlights local talent but also underscores the artistic potential of the university community in Jaén.
'Ellas Resuenan' explicitly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. It directly contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by giving visibility to historically overlooked female composers; to SDG 4 (Quality Education) through its pedagogical approach; and to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by advocating for the inclusion of marginalized voices in the collective cultural narrative.
The initiative addresses the reality that music history has largely omitted the contributions of female creators. Projects like this are essential to correct this imbalance, recovering forgotten works and names, and providing role models for young musicians currently training in conservatories and universities.
