The aspiring president of the Junta de Andalucía, María Jesús Montero, has chosen the city of Jaén for the start of her pre-campaign, in an event attended by former Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The event, held at the IFEJA auditorium, gathered numerous party militants and officials from across the province, aiming to consolidate support ahead of the upcoming Andalusian elections on May 17.
During her speech, the socialist candidate focused on the defense of public services, a fundamental pillar of her political proposal. She criticized the current state of Andalusian public healthcare, pointing out management deficiencies and failures in breast cancer screenings, and emphasized the need to strengthen the healthcare system to ensure equal opportunities for citizens.
“"I will not be the president of conformism or resignation. I will be president to transform Andalusia, protect the social majority, and provide equal opportunities."
For his part, former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero dedicated his speech to praising the socialist legacy and the PSOE's role in the progress of Spain and Andalusia. He highlighted the candidate's trajectory, describing her as a key figure for the socialist project in the community, and defended the current central Government's management in social policies and employment.
The event served to demonstrate the party's unanimous support for María Jesús Montero's candidacy, at a time when pre-election polls place the Partido Popular with a significant advantage. Both leaders called for the mobilization of progressive voters, downplaying the importance of surveys and appealing to confidence in the socialist project.
