The Popular Party Group in the Jaén City Council has raised concerns about the critical state of the province's railway connections, which are suffering constant interruptions and delays, attributing the problem to a "political decision" and demanding urgent solutions.

Since the beginning of the year, the province of Jaén has faced a severe deterioration in its railway infrastructure. The train connection between Jaén and Córdoba has been suspended since late January due to heavy rainfall, forcing Renfe to provide bus services. ADIF has announced that repairs will not be completed before the end of 2027, prolonging the region's isolation.
Adding to this situation are the increasing delays on the Jaén-Madrid line, which last weekend reached 48 minutes, highlighting a recurring problem. Agustín González, spokesperson for the Popular Party Group in the Jaén City Council, has described this situation as the "result of a political decision," emphasizing that the province has been virtually disconnected in all directions.

"The current situation is not a coincidence, but the result of a political decision."

Members of the Popular Party Group have demonstrated in front of the Spanish Government Subdelegation in Jaén to present a motion that will be debated in the plenary session on April 20. The aim is to demand the restoration of railway connections with western Andalusia and to end the isolation suffered by the city.
González recalled that the central government promised millions in investments more than a year ago, specifically 450 million euros, which have not yet materialized. He insisted that the interruption of the Jaén-Córdoba line since January 2026 is not an isolated incident but the consequence of prolonged lack of planning, and that weather-related incidents are a "pretext" for the structural abandonment of the service.

"450 million euros were promised, and today there is not a single machine working."

The popular spokesperson highlighted the direct impact on the lives of Jaén residents, who must endure journeys of over five hours with bus transfers to reach Seville, and similar times with "obsolete and unreliable" trains to travel to Madrid. He criticized the comparative grievance with other autonomous communities, where similar problems are resolved in weeks, while in Jaén, deadlines of up to two years are proposed.

"Traveling from Jaén today is not moving, it is resisting."

The motion that the Popular Party Group will present in the plenary session urges the Spanish Government to accelerate works on the Jaén-Córdoba line and to implement an effective temporary solution to reduce travel times. It also calls on the local government team, formed by PSOE and Jaén Merece Más, to abandon its "passivity" and lead a firm demand in defense of Jaén's interests, promoting actions to reverse the deterioration of railway infrastructure.
