Due to the inability to cover 56 school transport routes that have become vacant in the province of Jaén, the Department of Education has collaborated with local councils to establish alternative venues in the affected municipalities. This initiative aims to prevent children from having to travel by providing educational support in their own towns with up to 11 additional teachers.
This measure is complemented by the provision of direct aid to families, which will be processed automatically. The minimum amount will be 1,875 euros per student per academic year, potentially increasing up to 5,750 euros depending on the distance between the home and the educational center.
The delegate for Education, Francisco José Solano, has assured that the Andalusian Public Agency for Education continues to work on restoring the school transport service through all possible legal channels. Each of the 56 affected routes is being analyzed to ensure student attendance and minimize difficulties for families.
The school year began with the surprise that over 1,600 students in 32 municipalities lacked school transport due to the tender for the routes being left vacant. This situation has led to protests from families and students, including gatherings outside the Education office and the threat of an indefinite strike in the Sierra de Segura.
Representatives from the Provincial Federation of Mothers and Fathers Associations of Students, Fampa Los Olivos, have conveyed their concerns to the delegate, who reiterated that the priority is to guarantee the service and provide financial support to families while route coverage is completed.
Solano thanked Fampa Los Olivos for their willingness to dialogue and emphasized the importance of maintaining fluid communication with families to understand their needs and find solutions as quickly as possible.
