Historically linked to socialism, the province of Jaén has seen the Popular Party gain ground, reflecting a change in the Andalusian political landscape. In the 2022 elections, bipartisanship remained strong, with the PP securing six seats and the PSOE four, while Vox obtained one representative.
Current projections suggest the possible entry of new actors into the distribution of the eleven Jaén seats. The Por Andalucía formation sees Jaén as a province with growth potential, while Vox aims to double its representation, which could affect the balance of power and narrow the gap with the socialists.
“"Surveys do not rule out new actors entering the scene for the eleven Jaén seats."
A factor to consider is the Jaén Merece Más formation, which in 2022 was close to gaining representation in the Andalusian Parliament. Although it managed to enter city councils in the 2023 municipal elections, its recent trajectory does not indicate sufficient consolidation to break into the regional parliament, according to polls.
Regarding the main candidates, the PSOE has opted for the current president of the Provincial Council, who faces the challenge of maintaining socialist strength in a historically relevant demarcation. For its part, the PP presents the former Minister of Environment, a designation that has generated debate due to her previous role in health management. Vox retains its current parliamentarian, while alternative left-wing formations present their candidates to dispute the last seat at stake.
The central themes of the campaign revolve around the agricultural sector, public health, and social issues such as the dependency law, reflecting the main concerns of the citizens of Jaén.
