The city of Jaén will host an extensive program of activities to commemorate LGTBIQA+ Pride 2026, running from May 19 to June 21. The initiative, presented by the Jaén City Council alongside associations Somos de Colores, Chrysallis Andalucía, Arco Iris, Federación Andaluza LGBTI, and AASA, includes talks, workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, dance, music, and the traditional Pride demonstration. The program also benefits from the support of the Provincial Council of Jaén and the Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Diversity, and Social Responsibility of the University of Jaén.
The Councilor for Equality, Eva Funes, emphasized the council's role as a «guarantor of coexistence and human rights», stressing that «changes do not appear out of nowhere; they are possible thanks to the effort and active participation of people». She reiterated the municipal commitment to these awareness-raising activities.
Also present at the launch were the Government's Deputy Delegate, Manuel Fernández; the Deputy for Equality, Francisca Medina; and the Vice-Rector for Equality at the UJA, Pilar Fernández. Deputy Medina recalled that homosexuality was considered a mental illness until 1990 and warned about the continued occurrence of hate crimes, noting that 41 municipalities in the province have accessed Provincial Council aid to support the community.
The program kicks off on Tuesday, May 19, with the meeting ‘Jaén against LGTBIfobia’ at 6:00 PM in the Salón Mudéjar, organized by the Local Technical Committee LGTBI and Diversity. The remaining events will take place between May 28 and June 21, featuring dialogues on LGTBIQ+ memory and visibility, short film screenings, activities highlighting LGTBI composers, dance for equality, poster exhibitions, Drag storytelling, textile workshops for LGTBIQA+ patches, talks on assisting victims of hate crimes, book presentations such as ‘Plumiférico’ by Juanma Jiménez, the opening speech by Paco Clavel, musical performances, and the main demonstration.
