The Department of Urban Maintenance of the Jaén City Council is carrying out works to restore two sections of sidewalk on Virgen de la Cabeza street. The main objective is to eliminate elements that belonged to old pedestrian crossings, thereby improving accessibility and safety for all pedestrians, with special attention to people with visual impairments.
As explained by the Councilor for Urban Maintenance, Javier Padorno, the action consists of returning two sections of the sidewalk to their original state. Although they no longer correspond to active pedestrian crossings, they retained tactile paving and a lowered curb. These elements could mislead visually impaired individuals, making them believe a pedestrian crossing existed where it no longer does.
The councilor indicated that the intervention aims to ensure that people with visual impairments can navigate the street normally, without encountering elements that could cause confusion or risk.
These works are being carried out using the Urban Maintenance area's own resources, as part of the usual public road maintenance tasks in various parts of the city.
Padorno emphasized that these types of interventions, while seemingly minor, address real needs identified in neighborhoods and significantly contribute to improving the daily lives of residents. He reiterated the commitment of the Governing team to address citizen-reported incidents and act continuously in all neighborhoods of Jaén.
