These awards, consolidating as a key municipal initiative, aim to highlight the work of individuals and groups actively contributing to building a more just society. The jury, chaired by the Councillor for Equality, Eva Funes Jiménez, selected the six honorees from a total of 15 nominations.
Among those recognized are Consuelo Díez Bedmar, a tenured professor at the University of Jaén and a leading researcher in gender perspective, and María Antonia Romero Quesada, honored for her nearly four-decade teaching career, promoting values of equality among students.
Additionally, lawyer María del Mar Shaw Morcillo received an award for her advocacy for women's rights, combining her professional practice, teaching, and feminist activism in the province. The jury also highlighted the work of the Asociación de Mujeres Progresistas contra la Discriminación y la Violencia de Género, founded in 2001, for its extensive activities in training, awareness, and victim support.
The award also acknowledges new generations through the La Pecera project by IES Jabalcuz, a youth initiative with over five years of experience that promotes equality and combats misinformation about gender violence. Finally, the award proposed by the Mayor's Office went to Luisa Medina, an actress, director, and writer with over three decades of experience in the performing arts and audiovisual fields, noted for her socially conscious works and involvement in equality-related projects.
With these awards, the City Council emphasizes the importance of publicly recognizing those who work to eradicate gender violence and promote equal opportunities, reinforcing Jaén's role as a city committed to these values.
