The province of Jaén registered 205 paper books during the first quarter of 2026, solidifying its presence in the Andalusian publishing landscape during a period of market growth and renewed interest in physical formats.

The publishing sector in Jaén continues to show significant stability within Andalucía, with a total of 205 paper books registered during the first three months of 2026. This figure represents 5.6% of the regional production, consolidating the province's contribution at a time marked by market growth and a resurgence of interest in physical books.
Although the bulk of editorial activity remains concentrated in provinces such as Seville and Málaga, Jaén maintains its presence within the Andalusian book map, contributing titles in an expanding context, as highlighted by the Ministry of Culture and Sport. According to data from the Andalusian Editorial Production Statistics, 3,611 paper publications were recorded in the first three months of the year, an increase of 71% compared to the same period last year.
This rebound is part of a broader trend already noted in 2025. During that year, Andalucía registered a total of 14,320 books edited, representing 15.7% of the national total. Of these, 11,127 were in paper format, almost two thousand more than in 2024, confirming the strengthening of this medium against a slight 3.3% decline in digital publishing, which fell to 3,193 titles.
With these figures, Andalucía consolidates its position as the third autonomous community in editorial production in Spain, only behind Madrid and Catalonia, which together account for more than half of the market. In total, 91,172 titles were registered in the ISBN in Spain during 2025, of which 70.8% corresponded to printed books, reflecting a national trend of revaluing paper.
The growth of the sector in Andalucía also translates into an increase in the number of publications and the activity of publishing houses. The 375 active companies in the community edited 13.8% more titles than the previous year, reaching an average of 38 books per entity. Furthermore, 99% of these works were first editions, demonstrating the constant renewal of the editorial catalog.
Regarding content, although there is no specific breakdown by autonomous communities, national statistics indicate a predominance of works in Social Sciences and Humanities (39.9%), followed by literary creation (24.8%), children's and young adult literature (12.3%), and scientific-technical books (10%). Most titles are by a single author, with nearly 60% being men.
Adding to these figures is the positive evolution of reading habits. According to the Report on Reading Habits and Book Purchases in Spain 2025, Andalucía has reached a reading index of 63.5%, a notable increase from the 59.3% recorded in 2020. In fact, the community is among those that have improved the most in this area in recent years.
The report also reveals that 65.5% of Spaniards purchased at least one book in the last year, with an average of 9.6 copies per person. Women lead book purchases, surpassing men by more than six points, and traditional bookstores remain the main acquisition channel. As for e-books, half of users admit to having accessed their last read free of charge.
