The Provincial Public Library of Jaén will be the hub of several cultural activities. On Wednesday, April 15, the book club, led by playwright Lola Vico, will discuss Alejandro Casona's work La dama del alba. This play, premiered in 1944 during the author's exile in Argentina, pays homage to his homeland, Asturias, and invites reflection on death and its role in our lives.
Additionally, the Andalusian Center of Letters will host a meeting with Ángel Esteban, who will present his book París en femenino. The work highlights thirty European and American female writers, proposing a "revision of the canon of Western literature where women occupy their rightful place," according to the author himself. The event aims to give visibility to female figures who were not properly recognized in their time or who fostered male talents.
Meanwhile, the town of Rus will travel back to its Visigothic past from April 17 to 19 with the event 'Rus, Land of Visigoths'. This celebration honors the region's Visigothic heritage, dating from the 5th to 8th centuries, with archaeological remains such as the Valdecanales Visigothic oratory. The program includes historical reenactments, guided tours of archaeological sites, children's workshops on Visigothic oil lamps, and a themed gastronomic offer with special tapas.
On Saturday, April 18, the Nuevo Teatro Infanta Leonor will host the grand finale of the International Piano Competition 'Premio Jaén'. This competition, organized by the Provincial Council of Jaén, is one of the oldest in Spain in its musical category and has attracted pianists from 20 different countries over its 66 editions. Young talents, under 32 years old, will compete for prizes totaling 70,000 euros, performing pieces by great composers alongside the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra.
Also on Saturday, April 18, the IFEJA Pavilion will host La Mona Fest, a festival aiming to consolidate Jaén as the capital of urban and Latin rhythms. The event will feature artists such as JC Reyes, Juan Magán, Lia Kali, Lucho RK, Xiyo and Fernandezz, Kabasak i, as well as resident DJs Marín, Manu Barranco, and Momy. This festival has become an important spring event for young audiences, blending genres like urban and trap music.
Finally, the Calatravo Castle of Alcaudete will offer a Grand Medieval Theatrical Dinner on Saturday, April 18. This cultural experience will transport attendees to the 13th century, immersing them in the daily life of the ancient Calatrava encomienda. The fortress, one of the best-preserved defensive complexes in Andalusia, will be transformed with period characters, gastronomy inspired by medieval recipes, and small theatrical interventions that will recreate the atmosphere of a stately evening.
