This Friday, the Mudejar Hall of Jaén City Council will host 'Raíces: la poesía y el flamenco le cantan a Jaén' (Roots: Poetry and Flamenco Sing to Jaén), a cultural event intertwining flamenco singing with lyrical poetry to honor the province's essence.
The performance, scheduled for April 17 at 8:00 PM, will offer free admission until full capacity is reached. This initiative is a collaboration between the City Council's Board of Culture, Tourism, Festivals and Historical Heritage, the Torre del Concejo Neighborhood Association, and is funded by Caja Rural de Jaén.

"We were at a cultural gathering, and from there the idea was born to pay tribute to Jaén together. Since then, we have worked on this exciting project, and I believe it will be a very emotional recital because the lyrics are full of feeling and love for Jaén."
The artistic proposal uses various flamenco styles to bring to life the poetic texts of María Ángeles Solís, Miguel Ángel Cañada, and Martín Lorenzo Paredes Aparicio, prominent authors from Jaén. Their verses have been adapted for singing by Carmen Gersol herself, who will be accompanied on guitar by José Rojo.
“
"An emotional journey through the cultural essence of Jaén where word and song merge into a single voice."
The choice of the Mudejar Hall is not accidental, as it was the first headquarters of the Peña Flamenca de Jaén. María Ángeles Solís, daughter of the peña's founder, highlighted the symbolism of this return and quoted her father: «Flamenco is the most moving artistic expression any people could have created», adding that «if we unite it with poetry, long live the culture of Jaén».
Carmen Gersol, born in Jaén, is a significant figure in contemporary flamenco, with a career that includes collaborations with artists such as José Meneses and María Jiménez. José Rojo, a guitarist from Jaén, trained with masters like Paco Aguilar and Manolo Sanlúcar, and teaches at the Ramón Garay Professional Conservatory of Music in Jaén.
Among the poets, Miguel Ángel Cañada is known for works such as La leyenda de Lexy and K. Herida madre tierra. María Ángeles Solís, awarded the VI Federico Mayor Provincial Poetry Prize for her work Raíces, and Martín Lorenzo Paredes Aparicio, author of socially rooted poems, complete the literary lineup.
