The plenary session of the Provincial Council of Jaén approved an extension of one year for the execution of projects within the 2024 Provincial Works and Services Plan, pushing the deadline to October 1, 2027. Furthermore, the justification period has been extended by three months, with the new deadline set for January 1, 2028. This agreement, made on July 24, has been formalized with its publication in the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP).
This decision stems from the low execution rate observed as of July 1, when only 30% of the approved works for the participating municipalities in Jaén had been completed and justified. According to the records, 31 projects remained pending. The Provincial Council deems this figure "relevant" and "advisable" to implement the mechanism provided by the Andalusian Local Autonomy Law, ensuring the "real achievement" of municipal economic assistance plans.
The 2024 Provincial Works and Services Plan, with a credit of over 16.1 million euros, was initially approved on October 31, 2023, and definitively on April 1, 2024. Of the total amount, 11.7 million euros are allocated to municipal service provision and more than 4.4 million euros to investments, based on requests from the municipalities themselves.
