During the recent DGT campaign, a total of 1,935 vehicles were monitored in the city of Jaén. Of these, 174 drivers were sanctioned for exceeding the established speed limits, representing approximately 9% of the inspected vehicles.
The Jaén City Council highlighted that these initiatives aim to strengthen prevention and public awareness. The main objective is to promote more responsible driving and respect for speed limits, especially on urban roads and conventional highways, where the risk of accidents is higher.
“"Complying with speed limits is not only a legal obligation but a key issue to ensure the safety of all road users."
Inadequate speed continues to be a significant risk factor in road accidents, being the third most common contributing factor in traffic incidents and present in over 20 percent of fatal accidents. In 2024, 307 fatal accidents were recorded in Spain where excessive speed was a determining factor, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the 291 cases in 2023.
The Jaén council emphasizes the importance of drivers adapting their speed to road conditions and complying with current regulations. It is stressed that prudent driving can save lives and drastically reduce the number of accidents.
