Local Police officers attended the scene to conduct the necessary inquiries. Initial indications, as reported by the Council, suggest the incident may have been intentional, part of what is known as the "brown challenge".
The City Council has "strongly" condemned such acts, highlighting the risk to users' health and the detriment to residents caused by the temporary suspension of a municipal service.
The pool will remain closed until the cleaning, disinfection, and sanitation protocols mandated by health regulations are completed. The Council will provide updates on the facility's reopening once these tasks are finished, urging for "civility, respect for public property, and citizen coexistence".
Such incidents are not uncommon in the province. Last summer, the "brown challenge" led to the closure of several pools in the provincial capital and other municipalities like Villacarrillo and Cortijos Nuevos, in Segura de la Sierra. These actions typically require the facility to close for 24 to 48 hours for water decontamination.
