The new BYD Dolphin G DM-i has been officially unveiled in Jaén, positioning itself as an innovative offering within the European B-segment. This model stands out for its Dual Mode (DM) plug-in hybrid technology, enabling it to travel over 100 kilometers in all-electric mode, a feature the brand highlights as unique for a utility vehicle.
Engineered to offer the best of both worlds, the Dolphin G DM-i combines zero-emission driving with the flexibility needed for long journeys. Its weighted fuel consumption, with a fully charged battery, is remarkably low at just 1.4 l/100 km. The total combined range reaches up to 1,040 kilometers, factoring in a full battery charge and a full gasoline tank.
“"The model represents a step forward in democratizing the plug-in hybrid vehicle, offering high-end technology at a competitive price and with the reliability that characterizes BYD."
This model, BYD's first five-door vehicle specifically designed for the European B-segment, incorporates the 'G' designation (for Genius). Measuring 4,160 mm in length and 1,825 mm in width, it becomes the brand's most compact plug-in hybrid. Its exterior design follows BYD's ocean-inspired design language, featuring fluid lines and well-integrated air intakes.
Inside, the vehicle prioritizes spaciousness and simplicity. It features a horizontally lined dashboard, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a floating 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Thanks to a wheelbase of 2,610 mm, exceeding that of its conventional combustion engine rivals, it offers class-leading interior space, accommodating five adults and a 425-liter boot, expandable to 1,225 liters.
The Dual Mode Intelligence (DM-i) system integrates two electric motors and a gasoline engine, intelligently managed to automatically switch between electric (EV) and hybrid (HEV) modes, always prioritizing electric operation. The main electric motor delivers 163 hp and enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
The range is offered with two Blade Battery sizes. The Active version has a 7.42 kWh capacity and 40 km of electric range. The Boost, Comfort, and Sport trims feature an 18.3 kWh battery, extending the electric range to 105 km, with CO₂ emissions as low as 32 g/km. These latter versions also support DC fast charging, reaching 80% capacity in just 26 minutes.
The offering is structured into four trim levels: Active, Boost, Comfort, and Sport. The Active trim includes standard 16-inch wheels, parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and a 10.1-inch infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Boost trim adds Vehicle-to-Load technology, heated seats, and a larger screen.
The Comfort trim incorporates features from higher segments, such as the Head-Up Display, panoramic sunroof, 360° camera, and integration of the Google ecosystem. The Sport level complements the Comfort with distinct aesthetic details, including darkened wheels and two-tone sporty upholstery.
In terms of safety, all versions come standard with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, and a driver monitoring system.
The BYD Dolphin G DM-i Active is available from €18,700, including brand promotions, Plan Auto+ incentives, and financing discounts. The Boost trim starts at €21,376, the Comfort at €22,846, and the Sport at €23,826, under the same conditions.
