The municipality of Aldeaquemada, in the province of Jaén, will be the point in Andalusia where the Sun will be most covered during the eclipse this Wednesday, August 12. The phenomenon will reach a magnitude of 0.98, the highest figure in the autonomous community.

According to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), Aldeaquemada will register a solar obscuration of magnitude 0.98, matching Puebla de Don Fadrique in Granada. This figure represents the highest magnitude in all of Andalusia, although the eclipse will be partial and totality will not be reached in either of these municipalities.
The difference in magnitude with other points in the community is noticeable, showing a gradient from southwest to northeast. In Seville, the magnitude will be 0.95, and in Cádiz, 0.944. These small variations position Aldeaquemada as one of the places where the solar disk will appear most hidden.
An additional attraction in Aldeaquemada will be observing the eclipse with the Sun very low on the western horizon, coinciding with sunset. This circumstance will allow for combining the eclipse experience with the sunset, offering a striking astronomical image for the province of Jaén.
Despite the high magnitude, the eclipse will be partial, and the Sun will not disappear completely. The Aldeaquemada Tourism Office reminds the public of the importance of using specific certified eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2 standard, advising against looking directly at the Sun without adequate protection.
