The political party has expressed concern over the concentration of bullfighting activity to only a few days a year, which impacts the venue's profitability and economic sustainability. According to a group spokesperson, bullfighting is a fundamental part of Huelva's history and culture, and the Plaza de Toros de La Merced is a national reference in the bullfighting calendar.
“"Maintaining an open bullring requires incurring very high fixed costs for conservation, security, personnel, insurance, or promotion, while revenues largely depend on a single annual fair."
Given this situation, Vox advocates for the diversification of uses as a necessity to ensure the management company's viability and transform the space into an active venue throughout the year. It has been noted that other bullrings across Spain already host concerts, festivals, and cultural shows, expanding their utility and generating economic activity.
However, the municipal group alleges that the management company of the Plaza de Toros de La Merced faces “limitations, bureaucratic hurdles, and administrative difficulties” that impede the celebration of these complementary activities, which are crucial for the venue's medium and long-term profitability. For Vox, this is not merely a business issue but about fully utilizing a unique infrastructure in Huelva to play a more significant role in the capital's cultural, social, and economic life.
