The story of Olga Márquez de la Villa, who was elected Miss Huelva in 1998, has taken an unexpected turn. Thirty years after her reign, the woman from Huelva has spoken out to rectify an error that has caused her first surname to appear as “Martínez” in official archives and on the digital encyclopedia Wikipedia.
According to the affected party, this “misunderstanding” originated in the national organization of the pageant itself and has spread to the digital age, causing her “real identity to disappear from records”. To prove the veracity of her claim, the former Miss has resorted to newspaper clippings from Huelva Información from that era, where her surname appears correctly.
“"My real identity has disappeared from the records."
Newspaper reports from 1998 and 1999 confirm that Olga Márquez de la Villa was not only crowned Miss Huelva but also won the title of Miss Photogenic. In December 1998, in a packed Congress Palace, the young woman captivated the jury with her elegance and her measurements of 88-61-90, at 21 years of age.
Among the memories she cherishes is the official farewell before her participation in the Miss Spain 1999 pageant, held in Jaén on March 1. At that event, the then mayor of the capital presented her with a silver caravel, wishing her “good luck” as an “ambassador” of Huelva's beauty. Now, Olga Márquez seeks media support to formally request Google and Wikipedia to rectify her data, ensuring that her story in Huelva is recorded with her correct name and surnames.
